- On December 19, 2004 the book "Death of the Division" by Anatoly Gordienko was presented at the National library. The book is devoted to the death of the 18th rifle division during the Winter war between the Soviet Union and Finland.

More than 160 musicians from different continents will take part in the second international festival of ethnic music "Carelian Faces" which will be held in Petrozavodsk on September, 17-18.
Musicians who play tunes and rhythms of their countries in modern ways have arrived to the capital of Karelia. Among them are guests from Finland, Great Britain, the U.S.A., Brazil, Columbia, Ghana (Africa) and Faroe Islands. Russia is presented by a female folk band "Iva Nova" (St.Petersburg), folk bands "Vataga", "Santtu Karhu & Talvisovat" and an electronic music band "The Coon" from Karelia. In the frames of the "Carelian Faces" festival another festival of ethnic music films will be held presenting modern culture of nations worldwide, from Africa up to Japan.
This year the Carelian Faces festival is held under the logo "No Racial and National Intolerance". The festival was held under the auspices of the public organisation "EtnoKult" (Finland) and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
- "Flares of the Sunlight" is an exhibition of the young photographers from the Barents region.
The exhibition will be opened in the beginning of October in Arkhangelsk
museum of fine arts. Children of 10-12 years old and teachers from
Sweden, Norway, Russia (Arkhangelsk) and Finland (Kemi) were invited to
take part in the exhibition.
